3 Easy to Make Dips

March 1, 2012

Dips add a zing to snacks, whether you’re dipping cut veggies or pretzels or other goodies. Purchasing dips can get expensive, but you can easily make a wide range of dips on your own.

Here are three easy ones to whip up in a flash!

Make an easy ranch dip for vegetables in your food processor. Blend a 24 ounce carton of cottage cheese until it’s smooth and creamy, about 5 minutes. Add 8 tablespoons sour cream, blend until well mixed then a one ounce package of dry ranch dressing mix. Makes 8 servings for vegetable or pretzel dipping, or use on baked potatoes.

Even easier is mixing a package of onion soup mix with two cups sour cream. Refrigerate a couple of hours, or overnight is even better, to allow flavors to mix well.

If you need a larger amount, consider this smoked egg dip. Take 12 hard cooked eggs, and finely chop them, then combine with two tablespoons softened butter, 2 1/2 teaspoons liquid smoke, a tablespoon lemon juice, two teaspoons prepared mustard, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, two drops tabasco and a teaspoon and a half of salt. Combine, then add a teaspoon dried minced onion, 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper and 3/4 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing – blend until smooth and refrigerate at least four hours. Thirty minutes before serving, whip to soften it up.
