Why Don’t We Change?

November 26, 2014

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIf you look at forums, headlines, comment sections of news stories, Facebook pages and Twitter and beyond, it’s easy to feel hopeless about the food situation.

This is “poison” and that gives us cancer and don’t ever eat that…what to do? It’s “big ag’s” fault or Monsanto’s fault or McDonald’s fault. Rather than look at the person in the mirror who makes decisions for our food choices, it’s easy to blame someone else.

The Thanksgiving holiday approaches and we’re blessed with abundance. Some resent this abundance, saying if we could just go back to the way it used to be then all would be fine. Go back before GMOs were in our food and before the modern “takeover” of the food system. Go back to when whole foods were made, without preservatives and when all was natural. When everything was organic, some say. That’s how it should be, but is that reality. Often we don’t remember accurately what it was like then. Twenty years? Thirty years?

How about 50 years. That’s more than some readers have been alive. It’s more like their moms, and things were so much better then, right? Take three minutes.

We have so many time savers in the last 50, 60 years and yet we’re still unhappy. Still not happy about food choices and advice today is the same. So in 50 years actions haven’t changed. Will yours?

As we approach the holiday season, be thankful – in all ways. If you aren’t, change it.

Because life is too short to be unhappy.
